    Yolande Mcallister is behind bars in connection with assault on 19-year-old UD student

    A New Castle man accused of punching and choking a University of Delaware student is now in custody.

    Yolande Mcallister is a driver for a ride-booking service. According to UD Police, the 32-year-old got into an argument with a 19-year-old male student Tuesday night, in the George Read Residence Hall parking lot.

    Police said the driver choked and struck the student several times before fleeing in a silver Jaguar sedan.

    Witnesses provided a description of the suspect to police, who were later able to locate and arrest Mcallister at his home without incident.

    The student was treated and released from Christiana Hospital for injuries to his face and neck. 

    Mcallister was charged with third degree assault, strangulation and disorderly conduct. He’s behind bars at the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
