Ardmore wins Townie Award for Downtown Dollars initiative

The premise: sell local scrip at a 50 percent discount to draw consumers to Ardmore’s retailers.

The result: boosted buying power and a Townie Award.

Ardmore’s Downtown Dollars won the town a Community Marketing Award for Retail Events at the recent Townie Awards Gala. The event celebrates efforts in Pennsylvania’s downtown areas.

The Main Line Times reports the Downtown Dollars program began after businesses felt the effects of two blizzards and construction during early 2010. An initial $10,000 investment translated into $20,000 Downtown Dollars for the holiday shopping season and support for local businesses.
