AP: Concern over measles exposure in Somerville, N.J.
New Jersey officials have identified a person they suspect had measles and may have exposed anyone at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville during a recent three-day period.
The time of possible exposure was Monday and Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The New Jersey Department of Health says those who think they’ve been exposed to the virus should call a health professional to discuss this first. Then arrangements can be made for an evaluation without exposing others to possible infection.
Measles is spread through the air or by contact with mucus or saliva from an infected person. It can cause serious complications, including pneumonia and swelling of the brain. In a pregnant woman, measles can lead to miscarriage.
