The new season of “Downton Abbey” has a lot of people buzzing. We received a letter containing a poem from WHYY viewer Bob Sigmund, who lives in Delaware. It was something that we had to share.
Return to Downton
Folks whom I know to be quite savvy
Have all tuned in to Downton Abbey.
Many have found a character with whom one relates,
but I must admit for me it’s Anna and Mr. Bates.
Above stairs I revere Lady Mary,
Whose aristocratic deportment, she does with grace carry.
Her sisters Edith and Sybill have evolved into unique women of their day.
But sadly each, in pursuit of happiness, has been forced to pay.
The Earl of Grantham holds on to noble tradition.
But unfortunate events, such as the Titanic and World War I caused a challenging transition.
And when the loss of failed Canadian Railroad stocks threatened the Crawly way of life,
It’s Lady Mary and Mathew overcoming their differences that save the family from ruin and strife.
So to find out the fates of the Dowager Countess, Branson, Carson, and Mrs. Hughes, along with O’Brian, Thomas, Daily and Mrs. Patimore….
On the 5th of January set the TV to PBS (WHYY) to learn what Mr. Fallowes has for you in store.
