Amoroso sends layoff notices to drivers

Drivers for Southwest Philadelphia’s Amoroso’s bakery are hoping to stop the direct bargaining with the roll company, which issued layoff notices for its drivers.

The 77 drivers received 60-day notices, the Inquirer reports, as the company looks to find independent drivers to buy and operate routes.

Bob Ryder, president of Teamsters Local 463, expressed fears that boss Len Amoroso will sell the Philadelphia plant and move operations to the state-subsidized plant he co-owns in Vineland. Closing the Philadelphia location would displace 170 workers.
