ACLU sues PPD

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a suit against the Philadelphia Police Department alleging illegal use of Stop and Frisk.

ACLU attorneys are working on behalf of eight black and Latino men claiming they were subjected to illegal Stop and Frisk searches by police officers, WHYY’s Susan Phillips reports.

Citing more than 250,000 searches in 2009 — up from just more than 100,000 in 2005 — the ACLU says more than 70 percent of people stopped for searches are black.
