Ackerman talks about layoffs, educational resources

Hear it straight from the doc’s mouth. NBC10 interviewed School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Arlene Ackerman this morning.

The station caught up with Ackerman in front of the Education Nation installation at the National Constitution Center, but the questions cut right to the chase: teacher layoffs.

“Teachers absolutely were the last resort,” Ackerman told cameras. She says the senior staff members at the District have taken cuts, but that 2,000 of the District’s 12,000 teachers will get pink slips.

Reporter Aditi Ry also asked Ackerman what one eductional resource students need, since, you know, we’re celebrating Education Nation. Ackerman said she couldn’t name just one, but the first item in the list she gave? “Great teachers.”
