Abernathy joining Nutter team

Brian Abernathy, who has been policy chief and public relations manager for First District Councilman Frank DiCicco, is taking on a new roll with Mayor Michael Nutter’s administration.

Abernathy is joining the office of the managing director as a deputy managing director. He will be responsible for managing the activity of the Private Sector Outreach Board and for implementation of Reform Team recommendations.

Those who follow waterfront issues are likely familiar with Abernathy, who had a lead role in mediating discussions between members of the Central Delaware Advocacy Group and property owners and developers as DiCicco pressed forward with legislation for the Central Delaware Overlay. He has also been frequently quoted in the media on casino issues.

“The last six years have been great and I appreciated the opportunity to work with all of you,” Abernathy said in a statement to folks who have interacted with him on waterfront issues. “While we haven’t always agreed, I feel that we’ve always been able to maintain a level of respect that has helped us reach solutions to some difficult problems.

“Thank you for that opportunity and I’m sure we’ll have the opportunity to work with one another in the future.”
