A&P will close an additional 32 stores by spring

The hits just keep on comin’. A&P will cut thousands of more jobs when it closes an addition 32 stores — this after yesterday’s announcement that 10 stores in our area will close.

The Associated Press reports A&P will have just 340 operating stores after the next round of closures. Half of the stores on the chopping block are in New Jersey: seven Pathmarks, three A&P groceries and four SuperFresh locations among them.

WHYY’s Tom MacDonald is out to find the link, if any, between the closings and the undeveloped Pathmark in Northern Liberties. Is it just suburban stores feeling the pinch?
