A vision for Dilworth Plaza [video]

Can $50 million transform Dilworth Plaza into Philadelphia’s next great public space?

The business-funded Center City District sure hopes so. It’s leading the effort to make the west side of City Hall a green gem at the city’s geographic heart.

A newly-posted video (above) sketches out that vision, featuring voices from some the project’s key supporters.

“Dilworth Plaza is going to become the new destination in Philadelphia,” says Kathryn Ott Lovell of the Fairmount Park Conservancy, over swelling orchestrals. “It will truly become the center of our city.”

“It’s going to become the wow factor in Philadelphia,” says Drew Becher of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

The project is on schedule to open in June 2014. Check the full video up top for a Dilworth Plaza lovefest and some pretty sweet visuals.

My take at first blush? Seems similar to what the Daley administration was gunning for with Chicago’s Millenium Park. That project was much bigger, but it proved to be a huge hit from day one.
