A Valero refinery deal looking more likely in Delaware

Speculation is running high that a buyer for the Delaware refinery, Valero, will happen before the end of March.

Is a deal more likely this month for a sale of the Valero refinery  in Delaware City?  The Associated Press is quoting company sources who say the sale may happen soon.

The company shut down operations in January.  It said the refinery would be demolished.  Governor Jack Markell has made it a priority for his economic team to find a buyer.  He had mentioned it in his state of the state and budget addresses in January.  He also brought up the subject this week at a New Castle County chamber of commerce dinner.

One likely buyer quoted by some news organizations was the Swiss based Petro-plus.  Reuters news service reports that company may also be interested in the refinery in Paulsboro, New Jersey.

Valero closed the plant in a cost saving move.  The company said it had been losing $1 million dollars a day on that operation.
