A moment of silence for slain Roxborough High student

Students and staff from Roxborough High School and South Philadelphia High School today shared a moment of silence before the start of an afterschool matchup between the two school’s basketball teams.

Roxborough’s star senior guard Rashawn Anderson was gunned down Monday night near his home in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.

“I’m sure you’re all aware of the sad circumstances that are surrounding this game. We appreciate the courage of both teams playing and we appreciate you supporting them, the fans in the stands, ” said George Anderson, Southern’s boys’ basketball coach, just before the brief ceremony.

WHYY’s Aaron Moselle was at the game and will have a full report later this evening featuring video by Kimberly Paynter.
