Twenty-four new Wilmington Police officers officially graduated from the academy this morning.

The 24 Wilmington cadets were joined by a new Wilmington fire marshal and a cadet who will serve the town of Newport.  This is the first police academy class to graduate since 2010.

The new officers will join the force as Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams is working to reduce shootings and other violent crime in the city.  After winning the 2012 mayoral election, Williams pledged to make Wilmington a safer city.  “I am going to come after violent offenders, so start packing your bags, because we’re coming,” Williams said late last year.
