9 DRPA cops honored for heroism

I confess to seeking some counterprogramming this morning, having my fill of headlines and news coverage of Whitney Houston’s funeral. So I thought this was as far away from self-destructive but gloried celebrity as you get: UNheralded heroism, from an oft-maligned bunch of local civil servants.

Nine police officers with the Delaware River Port Authority will be honored next weekend by the Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund for valor in the line of duty during two separate emergencies in 2011.

Five of the officers helped get passengers out of a smoke-filled PATCO car after a small explosion on April 16. Four other officers saved a girl trapped in a burning car.
