$8,000 missing from Upper Darby Police evidence locker

The Delaware County District Attorney’s office is investigating a case of missing evidence within the Upper Darby Police Department. The $8,005 missing from a locker could have gone up in flames.

“As of Wednesday, we can’t find the $8,000,” Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Delaware County Daily Times. The money was seized in Novemeber 2009 from a home police searched following a domestic dispute, and police were instructed in early May to return the personal property.

Chitwood discovered the money was missing earlier this month, and a search of the room and other files hasn’t produced results. The D.A. is now handling the missing property case, but the evidence custodian wonders if the $8k was burned along with a burning of other evidence.
