5-star rating for Delaware’s Dewey Beach

Of all the nearby beaches you visit, Delaware’s Dewey Beach and Ocean City, Maryland’s Beach 6 are the only two to receive five-star ratings from the Natural Resources Defense Council.

The NRDC rated 200 popular beaches around the country for violation rates, environmental testing and safety practicing.

Seventh Avenue beach in Belmar is the only New Jersey beach to get four stars, while several others have three. Maple Avenue beach in Wildwood came in with just one star.

Meanwhile, Delaware has a strong showing. Its only other beach on the list, Rehoboth Avenue, has four stars. Maryland has two four-star beaches and a few other two- and three-star spots.
