Roxborough parade marks 21st Ward Junior League’s opening day

Saturday marked the start of the 21st Ward Junior Baseball and Softball League’s 2013 season.

In celebration, teams joined their parents, local community members and elected officials in a traditional parade through Roxborough.  The group started at Shawmont Elementary and made its way to the Al Pearlman Sports Complex on Port Royal Avenue.

When the crowds arrived at the field, 21st Ward Commissioner Michael Leinheiser opened the ceremony with a brief moment of silence to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.  The ceremony continued with the passing of the Commissioner’s Cup Trophy, first pitches thrown by the Fillies’ Kylea Amiry, 8, and Keith Samarco, 5, with the Indians.
