2017 Gretchen Hupfel Symposium, April 23rd
The Delaware Contemporary presents: Tumbling the Jewel: Sicily, a symposium featuring nationally and internationally renowned speakers who will examine and discuss the multi-ethnic contributions and current global issues facing Sicily and contemporary art today. Sicily has been referred to as the “jewel” of the Mediterranean because of its dazzling characteristics: natural beauty, rich volcanic soil, and strategic position. As such, its entire history has been “tumbled” by violence and change as conquering cultures of the world’s greatest civilizations invaded and left their mark. Tumbling the Jewel will include several socially engaged and scholarly activities, such as a multicultural dinner, three research presentations, a panel discussion, and a question and answer period. The Delaware Contemporary, Wilmington.

Johnny Guitar The Musical, April 21st – 23rd
Johnny Guitar, the Musical is based on the 1954 Republic motion picture Johnny Guitar. This laugh-filled musical based on the legendary Joan Crawford cult western embraces and sends up fifties-style movie acting, melodramatic romance and rough-and-tumble cowboy action. Featuring a sensational score with echoes of doo-wop and steamy southwestern ballads, Johnny Guitar tells the story of a sultry saloon keeper and her jealous nemesis, the town’s tycoon. When a handsome stranger with a secret past rides into town, the stage is set for a hilarious showdown unlike anything the Old West -or the theatre- has ever seen! Patchwork Playhouse, Dover.

The Peninsula Gallery Presents “Springing into Summer” through April 28th
The exhibition came together as a result of wishing to help celebrate Lewes’ Annual Tulip Celebration (April 6-15). With the realization that Lewes In Bloom is the non-profit, volunteer organization whose members plant thousands of bulbs and other plants around Historic Lewes every year to enhance the beauty of Lewes, we decided to partner with them in order to raise some seed money for a proposed new Garden for All Ages. To this end, we will be donating 10 percent of our share of sales and some artists will be doing the same from their sales. Peninsula Gallery, Lewes.
