2 counts guilty

A jury has found Herbert and Catherine Schaible guilty on both charges: involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. The couple faces up to 10 years in prison for the death of their 2-year-old son, who died in January 2009 after the parents prayed for his recovery from an illness rather than seek medical treatment.

A defense attorney for the couple argued they were unaware their toddler had bacterial pnuemonia and that although they believe in faith healing, did not seek a doctor for what they felt was a common cold.

The jury decided, as the Inquirer reports, the couple put their religious beliefs before the well-being of their son. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for eary next year.
