Media Veterans Day Parade brings big crowd to streets

Thousands lined the streets of Media, Delaware County, for a Veteran’s Day parade today.

The main street of Media hosted the parade, with veterans ranging from World War II to present conflicts.

John Weeks served in the Pacific during World War II. He said the bonds between veterans, no matter where they served, are very strong.

“It’s hard for people to understand. The camaraderie, your friends — you can bet on them that they protected you and you protected them and we’re still here,” Weeks said.

Ray Weed served during the Vietnam War, but not directly in the conflict.

“When I came home in uniform, if you didn’t take it off you got spit on,” Weed said. “People would just come up and call you a baby killer, and I would say, ‘I didn’t even get to Vietnam, I didn’t even get to Vietnam, so why are you spitting on me.'”

A highlight included veterans from older wars handing over flags to those who are still serving the country.
