$11 million refund for Delaware power customers

Delmarva Power electric and gas customers will get a refund from the company over the next few weeks.

The refund, which includes interest, comes as a result of the company charging customers higher rates for gas and electric, while waiting for a ruling on whether those rates would be approved. Evidently, higher rates were not approved.

Gas customers will start getting their refunds this week, while electric customers will get their refunds starting in September.  The amount of the refund depends on usage.  For gas customers, the usage timeframe stretches from February to June 2011.  Electric customers will be reimbursed for higher rates they paid during April 2010 through January 2011.

Delmarva Power has about 300,000 electric customers and 122,000 gas customers in Delaware.
