10 boat occupants jump to safety after fire ignites

No one was injured when a boat caught fire in the Shrewsbury River Sunday afternoon, forcing the occupants to jump into the water, authorities say.

10 passengers were aboard the 19-foot Sea Doo Speedster 200 when the fire sparked around 3 p.m., according to the New Jersey State Police.

After they jumped to escape the blaze, the passengers were picked up by another boat, police said.

Numerous fire departments from northeastern Monmouth County responded to extinguish the boat, which later sank.

The fire remains under investigation.
