Police spokesman Lt. Ray Evers said the same task force that’s investigating the strangling crimes is looking into other incidents in the area to see if there’s a connection.

City Councilmember Maria Quinones-Sanchez represents part of the affected community.

“When you look at the root of the people involved,” Quinones-Sanchez said.  “Even the victims in this case – the trail leads back to an environment that’s, particularly in Kensington, of one of drugs and prostitution.  In an area that I talk about many times – the forgotten area – it’s a contained criminal element that has existed there, that is very visible, but that many times we ignore.”

The police spokesman said there’s an increased police presence in the Kensington area.   Quinones-Sanchez said she hopes the string of crimes will draw attention to the nuissance businesses, vacant lots, and drug use in the area.
