A look at today’s changing drug laws

Listen

Last week Colorado and Washington voters passed ballot initiatives in support of the use of legal recreational marijuana. This is in addition to 18 states, including Washington, D.C., that have legalized medical marijuana on their books. The United States Department of Justice’s Controlled Substances Act considers marijuana the same as it did on November 5th:  a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance punishable under federal law. Our guest, DANIEL OKRENT, Pulitzer Prize finalist and author of “Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition,” looks at the impact of Prohibition on all aspects of the life in the United States and discusses some of the parallels to the current War on Drugs.
