Mother’s Day — the time to appreciate the moms in our lives. If you believe the greeting card industry, motherhood is marked by unconditional love and sacrifice.

A slightly different take on mothers is offered by The Onion, which bills itself as “America’s Finest News Source.”

In March, the Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium, a Philadelphia theater troupe dedicated to absurdist literature, staged “The Year of the Raw Onion,” an evening of dramatic readings from The Onion.  In that show, Sharon Geller portrayed a mom waxing rhapsodic about how the birth of her daughter had transformed her life … to an extent.

The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium’s next staged reading will be from three plays by Harold Pinter June 26th at L’Etage Cabaret.
