The Delaware Valley is an international leader in health, science and innovation. Living in such a brain-heavy region, it is not unheard of to find yourself in line at the coffee shop next to a top neurosurgeon, or sipping cocktails with a math genius. This kind of mingling can lead to some pretty amazing conversations.
Our health and science team recreates this kind of conversation in a new occasional series called “So, what do you do?”
We put a call-out on Facebook and Twitter for listeners and readers to do our job, stepping behind the microphone to interview an expert in the field of their choosing.
In the first edition, Philadelphia cartoonist Brady Russell responded with a request to talk to someone working in robotics. We connected him with Youngmoo Kim, a Drexel engineering professor who runs the Music and Entertainment Technology lab. (Which, among other things, makes music videos with robots as performers.)
Listen above to Kim and Russell talk about what robots can teach us about human creativity and rock music, and why they are never going to take over the world.
