Former priest Devadas Chelvam says "finding God is an internal process. Religious institutions and rituals deal with the external — externally

Devadas Chelvam studied philosophy and theology in his native Sri Lanka before being ordained a Catholic priest in 1960. After 10 years in the ministry, he came to the U.S. and earned master’s degrees in theology and sociology. At that point, his spiritual life took a turn.

He shared that journey in his book “Living with Saints and Sages.”

As he prepares an updated edition, “Limitless Love: Truly We are That,” the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, resident explained that “finding God is an internal process. Religious institutions and rituals deal with the external — externally, what you do to find God. They help you go deep inside, and that is where God is found, deep within you.”
