The interruption comes in the sixth week of the trial, following the conclusion of closing arguments by prosecution and defense attorneys on Monday.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Costello argued that Dougherty “bought Henon” in the government’s closing courtroom argument.

Among the character witnesses called for Henon were former nurses union president Patricia Eakin and Michael Bresnan, president of the firefighters and paramedics union.

Character witnesses for the City Council member included a state representative, a priest, and a community advocate.

The U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Schmehl made the dismissal in a written order and did not explain his decision.
