After 36 years in business, the Cantonese spot will shut down with the retirement of proprietor King Au.

Like every Christmas throughout its eight-and-a-half decades — excluding 2020, for obvious reasons — the South Philly institution is open for a full day of business.

The coffee roaster and retailer founded in Philly in ‘94 operates 32 stores around the country.

“I think it just speaks to how one person, one small business, can impact so many people,” said the proprietor of a neighboring business.

The 7,000 sq-ft. space is bright and airy, with a menu that ranges from traditional to Asian-inspired.

At the former North Star Bar corner, find beer, food, and cocktails — including a citywide that comes with a dog biscuit.

The Bella Vista bar was a neighborhood favorite also beloved by the restaurant industry. It had been closed for nearly four years.

The new Center City spot is a venture by Glu Hospitality, with a chef who trained in Japan and previously had his own restaurants.

The venture is an offshoot of catering company Chef’s Table. It serves breakfast sandwiches, BBQ, burritos, pizza, and more.

The former bottle shop has been reimagined as a sports bar with a menu that’s “different and unique.”

Called the Bar(n), it’s on a site with a history of safety violations, but the longtime owner says the blaze was unconnected.

The owner’s mantra for the dine-in restaurant at 13th and Chestnut: “It should be easy, it should be cheap, and it should be simple.”
