KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Schools, a network of public charter schools with 6,000 students in 66 schools nationwide, is one of the most highly- regarded education models in the country. It’s students attend school nine hours a day with required summer and Saturday sessions. Washington Post education writer JAY MATHEWS has written a new book about KIPP called “Work Hard, Be Nice.” He joins us to talk about how the development of the program and why and how it works.
