Seven score and 10 years ago President Abraham Lincoln opened the ceremonies for Civil War soldiers in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania – the site of the deadliest battle of the war – with the approximately two minute speech now known as “The Gettysburg Address.” Lincoln’s prophesy, “The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here,” isn’t what history has proven as many of the approximately 270 words are indelibly fixed in many American’s memories. We’ll examine what this speech means today with historians ALLEN GUELZO, of Gettysburg College and Princeton University professor SEAN WILENTZ.
