The Arctic Records story

Listen 00:48:44

Guests: Frank Lipsius, Max Ochester

This hour, we’ll hear about the influential Philadelphia soul label, Arctic Records, which launched the careers of many of the genre’s superstars, including Kenny Gamble and Daryl Hall.  In conjunction with Philadelphia record store, Brewerytown Beats, the label’s singles are being reissued on vinyl.  We’ll discuss the beginning of the Philly soul scene, the history of the label and its artists, and the renewed interest in the city’s forgotten sounds. We’re joined by FRANK LIPSUIS, son of Arctic Records founder, Harold Lipsius, who has been digging into the vaults to find the original tapes of Arctic’s most notable songs.  We’ll also be joined by Brewerytown Beats owner, MAX OCHESTER, who is also involved in the re-issue process.
