Stars Stuck on the Spin Cycle
Scientists are observing pauses in the spin cycle of some stars. Although, it seems more like slamming the breaks. Scientists have observed pulsars, rotating neutron stars, spinning incredibly fast. Well, how fast are they going? Some are slow, rotating 60 times a minute, but there are pulsars that are rotating a million times per second. Some of them have the ability to stop their rotation all together seeming as if they simply turn off. Also, there is new evidence about how black holes work since scientists can observe high X-ray bursts coming from black holes in other galaxy’s. And not too long ago researchers thought that particles could travel faster than the speed of light, but it turns out that there were mistakes with the experiment and their findings were not accurate. And don’t miss what’s in the night sky this week. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20120312.mp3]
