    In 1858, Democratic U.S. Senator Stephen Douglas and Republican Illinois legislator Abraham Lincoln debated face to face seven times. These debates gained attention throughout the country. We discuss the significance of the Lincoln and Douglas debates with ALLEN GUELZO. He is Professor of the Civil War Era at Gettysburg College and a Two-Time Winner of the Lincoln Prize. His books include “Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation” and his latest book is “Lincoln and Douglas: The Debates that Defined America.” This is a rebroadcast, so tune in but don’t call in.
