Radio Times in Review: global music

Guests: Jake Shimabakuro, Femi Kuti, Amir ElSaffar

We’re going to explore music from around the world on today’s edition of Radio Times in Review. First, we’ll get music and conversation from Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso, JAKE SHIMABAKURO. We’ll also hear from Nigerian afrobeat band leader FEMI KUTI, son of the genre’s founder, Fela Kuti.  He joined us to talk about his work, and how his father influenced his music and politics.  And, we’ll listen to Marty’s conversation Iraqi multi-instrumentalist and composer AMIR ElSAFFAR, who fuses traditional music from Iraq with jazz.  He brought an instrument called the santur into our studio to demonstrate its distinct sound.
