    Tackling teen pregnancy–a whole person approach
    The rate of teen pregnancy continues to fluctuate, but is mostly stable in the first state. Programs such as DAPI work with girls to understand what is at stake once they have a child and how to prevent further unintended pregnancies. But there are also programs like “Girls Can Do Anything” which work with these young woman to understand how to take total control of their lives including through the economic impact.

    Police Connections
    Yomayra Carmona’s son Bryant is visually impaired. To the untrained eye his behavior might seem erratic. She convinced the Wilmington Police Department that an important connection to the community would be to identify people like Bryant and make sure that behavior is not mistaken for someone who is not cooperating with the police. The training sensitivity has worked as we report this week.

    A Delaware company which makes dog treats hires a number of disabled employees. One challenge they have is dealing with accurate measurements. That may be fixed through the winning team at Concord High School and the Source America Design Challenge Team competition.

    Eight artists make up the consortium known as SYNE, they are celebrating 25 years together with a big exhibit of their work at the Biggs Museum in Dover. Check it out and meet two of the artists in this week’s First Experience.
