Cuts to Temple University athletics programs

Listen

Guests: Bob Ford, Joey Cranney, and Fred Turoff

Temple University’s Athletic Director Kevin Clark announced several weeks ago that the school will be eliminating seven sports programs in 2014. The cuts, effective this summer, include five men’s teams — indoor and outdoor track and field, crew, gymnastics, and baseball – and women’s crew and softball. Nine coaches will lose their jobs and 150 student-athletes will be impacted. In this hour of Radio Times, we’ll break down this issue with BOB FORD, sports columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer, JOEY CRANNEY, Editor-in-Chief of The Temple News, and FRED TUROFF, Temple’s longtime men’s gymnastics coach.
