A debate from the left on the Obama presidency

    Political psychologist DREW WESTEN wrote a provocative op-ed in the New York Times recently titled, “What Happened to Obama?”   In it he criticized President Obama’s failure to use the power of presidential speech to win over Americans and some of his weak policy decisions, such as the debt-ceiling compromise.  But other commentators from the left have taken issue with Westen’s critique and offered a defense of Obama.  Today, liberals on the Obama presidency, from his rhetoric to his policies.   DREW WESTEN is a political psychologist at Emory University and the author of The Political Brain: The Role of Emotions in Deciding the Fate of the Nation, and MATTHEW YGLESIAS is a Fellow at the Center for American Progress Action Fund.
