Yarnbomber dresses Rocky statue for spring

The Rocky statue is looking a bit more colorful these days. WHYY’s Maiken Scott spotted the Art Museum steps hero yesterday wearing a pink sweater. Though it seems the sweater’s already been discarded, pink really was Rocky’s color.

As we suspected, it’s the work of yarnbomber Jessie Hemmons, whose work you may have seen on local bike racks and the Market-Frankford Line.

The statue sported a pink sleeveless sweater encouraging his admirers to “go see the art.” Ishknits yarnbomber Hemmons made the sweater. WHYY’s Peter Crimmins is hoping to talk to her about how she slipped the perfect-fitting knit onto Rocky’s frame.

In the meantime, enjoy the pictures. And go see the art.
