With large contribution from energy company, Harrisburg holiday parade is back on

As Mayor Linda Thompson tells it, Harrisburg was always going to have a holiday parade.

The city said two weeks ago it would have to cancel its annual holiday celebration, citing a lack of funding due to its deep debt. But Thomson said she was hoping the announcement would spark some emotion from sponsors to get the parade effort going again.

Now CBS21 reports the newly named “Harrisburg Holiday Parade – Sponsored by Direct Energy” is a-go thanks to a $20,000 contribution from the energy company, and additional donations from other sponsors.

Santa will visit Harrisburg after all.

But not before he does the traditional mall tours. The big is already making the rounds in our area, believe it or not. He’s due at Oxford Valley mall Saturday, ushered by a parade, of course.
