Wintry weather prompts Pennsylvania Turnpike speed reduction

Wintry weather in Pennsylvania has prompted a speed reduction on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and is causing flight delays in Philadelphia.

Turnpike officials said weather and roadway conditions prompted a reduction of the speed limit to 45 mph on all turnpike sections including the east-west I-76, I-70/76 and I-276 section, the Northeast Extension (I-476) and all southwestern Pennsylvania extension roadways.

Turnpike crews will continue to treat the roadway. Officials urge motorists to travel at a safe speed, give trucks plenty of room and never pass trucks that are actively plowing or spreading salt.

Philadelphia International Airport said Federal Aviation Administration officials imposed a ground stop Saturday on flights heading to Philadelphia but later lifted it. Officials said flights have been arriving an average of one hour and 38 minutes late.
