Wilmington firefighters rescued a young teen from a drainage tube near the Market Street Bridge Monday morning.

Someone called 911 around 7:43 Monday morning to report a young man who jumped from the Market Street Bridge over the Brandywine River in Wilmington. The teen was seen swimming near a drainage tube where he was able to get out of the frigid water.

Members of the Wilmington Fire Dept. were able to lower a rescuer to check the 14-year-old victim for injuries and prepare him to be rescued. Firefighters say the teen showed no signs of injuries or hypothermia despite the cold water. He was hoisted out to medics for assesment and was then transferred to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.

The incident was placed under control after about an hour.
