Wilmington residents can recycle Christmas trees

The Wilmington Department of Public Works is asking residents of the city to recycle their Christmas trees.

The department says residents can place their Christmas trees on the curb during their regular recycling collection days. Ornaments and lights must be removed from the trees. Collection crews will then grind the trees into wood chips.

Citizens can also call the Public Works Call Center at 302-576-3878 to request a Christmas tree be recycled. The service will be available through mid-February.

The wood chips generated by the Christmas trees are used by the city as a covering for city parks and other properties.
