Wilmington gun buyback event declared a success

People lined up an hour in advance Saturday for a gun buyback event in Wilmington.

State officials were at two churches to give prepaid debit cards to residents who handed over their guns, but the cards — $100,000 worth — were gone in 90 minutes, as the Associated Press reports. Vouchers were handed out instead.

Handguns were exchanged for $150 cards, shotguns and rifles each got $100 cards and assault weapons were exchanged for $200 cards. About 2,000 weapons were collected and all participants remained anonymous.
