A 21-year-old dirt bike rider who crashed into a WIlmington fire truck Saturday afternoon has died.

The Wilmington Fire Department truck was responding to a fire call along W. 4th Street at the intersection with N. VanBuren Street when the collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. City police say the fire truck had all its emergency lights activated and had the green light. Police say the dirt bike did not stop for the red light and crashed into the truck.

The rider was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition Saturday. Wilmington Police announced Monday that he died as a result of his injuries. Originally, police said charges were pending against the rider.
