Wilma Theater exhibit features antique vibrators

Shouldn’t be too hard to convince your theater-hating significant other to see Wilma Theater’s In the Next Room, or the the vibrator play. If the title alone won’t do it, the hands-on antique vibrator exhibit might.

The play is about an accidental intimate discovery by an aspiring inventor’s wife during the dawn of electricity. But the theater has taken the humor a step further with a partnership with South Philly’s Sexploratorium. The sex education center will display mint condition antique vibrators, some dating back to the 20th century. Viewers are encouraged to handle the vibrators, which are still in working condition and can be plugged into a nearby power source.

“The Wilma Theater has included this special exhibit as a means for patrons to experience the objects first hand and develop a deeper understanding of the historical development of the vibrators featured in the show,” a statement from the theater says.

The play started yesterday and runs for a month. Ticketholders get free admission to the exhibit, but the rest of you curious cats will have to oggle from afar.
