Rehashing of testimony for jurors in Gosnell abortion clinic trial

In week two of deliberations, the jury re-heard testimony from a clinic worker in the trial of West Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.

Back in 2009, Lynda Williams said she administered pain medicine to Karnamaya Mongar. The 41-year-old immigrant was rushed from Gosnell’s clinic to the hospital and later died. Gosnell now faces 3rd-degree murder charges in the death.

For more than three hours Wednesday a court worker read Williams’ words while the prosecution and defense attorneys read what they said in the original testimony.

The prosecutors worked to draw out details of a procedure performed on aborted babies, which Gonsell called ‘snipping.’ When a baby was expelled from its mother’s uterus before the beginning of an abortion, Williams said Gosnell taught her how to perform the maneuver.

“Doc showed how to do that,” Williams’ testified. “Turn it over and cut the neck and cut the cord.”

Williams said she “snipped” an infant’s neck just once.

In November 2011, Williams pleaded guilty to charges of drug delivery resulting in a death and two counts of 3rd-degree murder. She also agreed to cooperate in the case against Gosnell.

During his cross-examination of Williams back in April, defense attorney Jack McMahon pushed to establish a pattern of “hundred and hundreds” of abortions performed without incident.

Williams said her boss was often absent for large stretches of the day while she and other employees worked without on-site supervision.

In addition to 3rd-degree murder of a patient, Gosnell also faces murder charges in the death of four babies allegedly killed after delivery.
