William Paterson graduates protest Lt. Gov. Guadagno at commencement
Dozens of graduates of William Paterson University protested the presence of their commencement speaker, N.J. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, today by turning their backs as she delivered her speech at the Izod Center in East Rutherford.
This isn’t the first time a member of Gov. Chris Christie’s administration has been protested at a commencement. Seton Hall students booed Christie two days ago as he delivered their commencement speech.
Guadagno praised the student protesting her presence, as reported by The Star-Ledger.
“It’s their right to do so,” Guadagno said during the speech. “I applaud them for doing it in a polite way.”
William Paterson students began organizing the protest when Guadagno was named their commencement speaker about a month ago. Students used Facebook to rally graduates to protest the Christie administration’s cuts to higher education funding.
