Wildwood hotel owners say they’ll oppose beach fees

Wildwood hotel owners say they’ll oppose a beach fee, calling it “regressive, inefficient and objectionable to many.”

The Greater Wildwoods Hotel Motel Association released a statement yesterday declaring the idea of charging beach fees a bad one.

But Commissioner Pete Byron insists the idea is just that, telling the Press of Atlantic City the city’s assessment of beach fees is still “exploratory.” Earlier this month, Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. said the issue requires a lot of research to determine if a beach tag system is valuable.

The idea came up — not for the first time — when Troiano cited the high cost of keeping the beaches free of trash.
