Plans to allow parking on the Wildwood Beach has been delayed because of mother nature.

Wildwood New Jersey Commissioner Pete Byron said the weather is the chief delay that has pushed back the grand opening of their beach parking.

The problem is that to get to the beach, cars will have to pass underneath the boardwalk but right now the tunnel underneath is only high enough for smaller four-wheel drives. “There was always beach access off Baker Avenue under the boardwalk, but we wanted to have to have clearance equal to any parking garage people were used to.”

That meant digging deeper into the sand which was delayed by inclement weather, but Commissioner Byron said they expect to open the parking for 4 wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles only within the next two weeks for $10 a day.

“We’re not looking to knock anyone over the head it’s more for the convenience, we did a little research and saw in Brigantine which has been doing it for 6 or 7 years now they actually make more money for their four by four parking on the beach than they do their beach fees..”

There will be a $20 a day premium for special event parking.
